About Us - Western Australian Plant Wholesaler

Mission:
To grow a large range of high quality plants within the areas of natives, hardy trees, shrubs, grasses, conifers, climbers and ground covers for supply to the Perth and Western Australian market.

Location:
Situated in the Darling Range, 35km from the centre of Perth and 7km from Kalamunda, off Mundaring Weir Rd.

History:
Starting in a small way in 1973, it has gradually grown over the years.  The property was originally a run down orchard and swamp, but is now well drained, pathways sealed and gardens maintained.

Size:
The nursery occupies about 3.5ha.  This is most of the usable part of the property.

Our staff numbers range from 14 to 16 depending on the time of the year.  Some of our key staff are:

Market:
We supply Perth Metropolitan and WA regional garden centres, landscapers and government bodies.  Many of our garden centre customers within Perth order via our Display Truck.  Our plants are also sold through the Plant Supply Company to regional customers, and through the Hort Marketing trade mart in the northern suburbs.  See our Where to Buy page for more information.

Climate of our Nursery:
Our winters are slightly colder and summers slightly hotter than in Perth.  Therefore we have some restrictions in the range of plants we can grow due to occasional frosts, and high summer temperatures, but these are being overcome as we build more shade houses and retractable roof structures.

Water:
Our sources are varied - bores, a dam, a natural creek and recycled water.  The quality is good and all surface water is filtered and chlorinated to prevent the risk of any pathogens circulating, among other things.

Nursery Type:
Partly due to the location of our nursery we chose to be "Strictly Wholesale".  Although we are medium production nursery we grow an extensive range of plants rather than very large quantities of a few varieties.  Also we do not sell tube stock, we only sell plants in pots ranging from 130mm-200mm with a few species grown in 305mm pots and 45lt bags.

Plant Propagation:
We propagate about 50% of our plants, these are grown from seed or cuttings.  All other plants are bought in from quality WA and eastern states growers.  About 800 different species or cultivars are grown annually.
